Susan King is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had at a writing conference. The first time I went to the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, I took Susan’s class which was filled to capacity. I found myself taking copious notes as she gave her students a whole college semester’s worth of teaching in a three-day, 2-hour class.

With her help, my first devotion was published the next year, but I went back to Blue Ridge and to Susan’s class because she taught so much I hadn’t totally grasped the first year. (She lovingly kicked me out when I tried to attend her class the third year.)

When ten years later I began my own conference, I was delighted that Susan accepted my invitation for her to be on my faculty. As expected, her class filled up. She has served on the faculty every year since, and her class fills up every time.

In addition to Susan’s teaching, her enthusiasm and encouragement makes her stand out among other faculty members. Susan wants her students to succeed and does not turn away anyone who wants to talk to her. I’ve seen her eat late or miss meals due to spending time with prospective writers who crave her counsel.
